Mezzanine Project, City of Wolverhampton College

Mezzanine Project, City of Wolverhampton College

Value: £1.4M

Type: Education

Partner: Interclass

Appointed through the Constructing West Midlands Framework, Interclass completed an extension and refurbishment project at the City of Wolverhampton College’s Wellington Road campus.

This project created two purpose-built mezzanine areas within the Construction Innovation Centre, now home to new electrical and plumbing workshops, along with refurbished training areas for students pursuing qualifications in gas and painting and decorating.

All areas are equipped with industry-standard tools and equipment, ensuring students gain practical experience using the same tools they will encounter in the workplace. During the construction phase, students had the opportunity to do work placements on-site, benefiting from hands-on experience alongside experienced tradespeople involved in the project.

The scheme also included the addition of two classrooms, featuring cutting-edge hybrid learning technology to provide high-quality interactive teaching for students unable to attend sessions in person. Developed with funding from the Department of Education’s Post-16 Capacity Fund, the new facilities opened for the start of the 2022/23 academic year in September.

Project highlights
  • Delivered in a live college environment
  • Provided work experience opportunities for students
  • Completed on time and within budget
