Tanworth Court Residential Care Home

Type: New build
Partner: Speller Metcalfe
Speller Metcalfe was contracted to deliver a new build 60-bed care home in Shirley near Solihull, along with all associated works including infrastructure, services, highways and landscaped areas.
The ‘dementia-friendly’ home was designed by Solihull Metropolitan Borough Council’s in-house design team in line with Stirling University dementia design principles to create a safe, stimulating and homely environment.
Features include clear signage, colour-theming to help residents find their way around and welcoming communal lounges to encourage socialising.
The project involved the construction of a new, three-storey care home with a gross internal floor area of 3051 square metres. The care home was traditionally constructed with ground floor bearing concrete floor slab with trench filled foundations on vibro ground improvement piles, masonry substructure with precast concrete floor planks, tiled roof on timber trusses and fabricated steel frame, aluminium windows and external doors.
