Wednesbury Health Centre and Housing

Value: £6M

Type: Health & Housing

Partner: Interclass

Interclass, the appointed principal contractor by Sandwell Council, successfully delivered a multi-million-pound housing project and a new health centre at King Street, Wednesbury. The development, situated on a one-acre brownfield site adjacent to Wednesbury Leisure Centre, provided five much-needed council properties—four two-bedroom homes and one three-bedroom home—and a state-of-the-art health centre for the Spires Health Centre and the district nurse service.

The King Street project was procured through the Constructing West Midlands framework and included extensive groundworks and highway works to facilitate incoming services. The new health centre features three treatment rooms, six consulting rooms, diagnostics rooms, storage areas, and a large administrative and reception area.

Replacing the outdated Mesty Croft Clinic in Alma Street and the temporary building at Victoria Street previously used by Spires Health Centre, the central location of the King Street development enhances access to healthcare for Wednesbury residents and contributes to the area’s regeneration. The new centre officially opened in September 2023.

The housing component of the project involved creating five much-needed new council properties, with four two-bedroom homes and one three-bedroomed home. The development is expected to not only provide more accessible healthcare services but also to create further regeneration opportunities in the area. The project was completed during the first half of 2023, paving the way for continued growth and improvement in Wednesbury.
