Construction of a new-build fire station for Nottinghamshire Fire & Rescue totalling 741m2.
The new facility comprises of new meeting rooms and offices, three fire engine bays and a gymnasium for firefighters. Externally, there is a new three-storey training tower and compound store, new car parking space and hard and soft landscaping to the grounds.
Built using the latest renewable technology, the building has the capacity to self-generate up to 50% of it’s energy consumption by utilising the PV panels we installed on the roof of the building. As a result, the building was awarded an EPC A rating of 18, when most other buildings of this nature register at circa 26.
The scheme forms part of the wider Vesuvius development, which is a multi-million pound re-development scheme, and aims to become the prime industrial and business location in Worksop with a mix of light Industrial units, food and drink outlets and office space.
The new facility has replaced the existing station situated in Eastgate, which was an ageing and costly to run station originally built in 1963. Early access to the new building was required to enable the IT team to set up new communications systems to allow for a seamless move from the old facility to the new.
The building is located on the former Vesuvius Brickworks site which was demolished in the late 2000’s. The site underwent numerous remediation works to improve the site and included the removal of buried asbestos.
Social value initiatives on the scheme included donating excess building materials, PPE and signage to the Age UK – Men In Sheds charity. Men In Sheds is a local workshop for lonely men who are aged 50+. they can meet with like-minded people and take part in crafts etc., for other local charities. For example, users of the charity helped to make a dolls house for a local bereavement charity.
